A Response to The Articles that Are Anti-Gaming and anti-gamers

Playing videogames like The Legend of Zelda and Earthbound as a kid improved my intelligence and created an experience that defined part of my life. (Anyone who played these games when they came out would co-sign my statement.)

I played a lot of video games growing up – but the difference between my generation and the current ones, is while we enjoyed video games, the term “gamer” was not invented yet – and there was SEVERE PEER PRESSURE to not develop what we called:

A NINTENDO TAN

The rule of thumb was the following:

· You get home from school.

· Eat a quick snack, change your clothes.

· Be on the street to pick teams in no later than 15 minutes after getting off bus.

· Whichever season was in, was the game we’d play. Football, baseball, basketball.

· You play, and you play hard until your mom calls you home for dinner.

· After dinner, you do your homework.

· Once homework is done – you play video games – BUT YOU PLAY A SPORTS video game such as Tecmo Bowl, Madden ’93 , Madden ’95, NES Play Action Football, Joe Montana Sports Talk Football, Bulls vs Lakers, NBA JAM, Hoops, Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, Super Punch Out, Super Tecmo Bowl, NBA Live, NBA Hangtime, Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat.

The days when it would rain, you don’t stay indoors and play videogames, you go out to the field at the end of the block and play Bears-Packers gridiron re-creation of the games where “the elements” were experienced and the mud and the glory were relived.

Videogames were for AFTER dinner and AFTER homework.

EXCEPT the first week the new games come out. Then there is an exception – but usually about 45 minutes into playing a sports game, we would all want to go out and do the real thing.

With that said, there was a RITE OF PASSAGE everyone had to do at some point – usually you’d do this at night time.

You had to complete the game “The Legend of Zelda” and “Zelda 3: A Link to the Past” because those games train your mind on how to think outside the box and complete a quest of mammoth proportion and was worth experiencing and discussing with others.

You also had to complete the original Super Mario Brothers because that is what every kid had to do.

Oh, and you had to beat CONTRA – the ultimate boy game of all time.

In fact, this guy James Rolfe aka The Angry Nintendo Nerd made a 6 minute video explaining what it was like to be our age and to complete Contra.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/angry-video-screwattack/723402

I nominate James Rolfe as the spokesperson for my generation (we’re the same age) and I’ve seen every single video (over 200) that he’s made over the past 6 years because he explains my exact video game experience EXACTLY as I experienced it. It’s like we grew up on the same block. (Except he didn’t play sports.)

He created a living for himself that I tried so hard to create for myself with video and audio but just didn’t have the same support team and talent that he had to make it possible. If you wanted to know what I wanted to be when I grew up, The Angry Nintendo Nerd is it. He does his marketing, his videos, EVERYTHING how I do it – but he is much better at it and has a much more mainstream niche.

His website to learn more about him is www.cinemassacre.com.

I’m notified on my iPad via RSS feed and his Cinemassacre app the moment he makes a new video.

Anyways, its ok to play videogames – but NEVER let yourself develop A NINTENDO TAN. (which means pale white skin from staying indoors).

Crawfish Encounter

Good bait

Nice snack if it was from LA

Whats with the X files music?
they're extraterrestrials.

But haven't crawfish been around since the Mesozoic Era or earlier?

Aren't we the extraterrestrials?

Yes. We are the ETs.
We had a close encounter with the sea kind last nite.
i dont know who abducted who.
They invaded the land.
We took it into our mothership home and ran tests on it.
Strange creatures.
There were fish walking all over the street yesterday.
They're invading.

its not normal for me to see animals.
I live in a sterilized computer lab, void of any life, except maybe microbial.
When i see life, i'm bewildered.
Including plants.

Don't get me wrong, they fascinate the shit out of me too...and taste yummy.

I enjoyed the video.

I want to experience your invasions of walking fish.

Seems spectacular in all ways.

J Stylez Dream - Tropical Island (2011)

J Stylez Dream:
Subject: Dream I had about a tropical island...

This is a dream I had Monday morning/Sunday night that I wrote down when I woke up. I just found it in my drafts.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

I was on a tropical island with DH and a bunch of other people. DH said he had been there before and he wanted to show me something that would blow my mind.

We hopped on his golf cart, which must have been European as the steering wheel was on the right side.

We drove a bit through a tropical forest and came to a brick road that looked like the ancient Mayans had built it.

It was a very steep incline and we almost didn't make it to the top as the golf cart was struggling with the weight of both of us.

Finally we reach the top and begin to descend into this really odd Mayan Temple looking structure.

We can go no further on the golf cart so we get out and start to walk.

Each step we take causes the ground to emit these bursts of bright blue matrix style characters that burst out about 100 feet in all directions. It's really quite spectacular.

My mind is blown and I pull out my iPhone to start recording the experience.

When I begin recording, I realize that my phone is recording a different image than my eyes are seeing. It seems that somehow my phone is recording or showing me what happened there in the past.

Its pretty freaky and starts to trip me out. Dave tells me to calm the f down and put my phone away as we venture deeper into the temple.

He says that he needs my help to decode a message hidden deep within a cave at the center of the temple.

We get there and it's a rack of computer motherboards all wired together. The rack is made of stone and the boards look like they all have vacuum tubes and no new circuitry.

He tells me that this was built centuries ago and there is data stored in the cluster of computers. He needs my help to access it by decoding the encryption.

I am thinking that I should use my iPhone to see back to the past again and maybe garner some clues.

That was the end of the dream.

Lyrical Fusion - Praise

"What yall did with LF was really unprecedented. I've never seen another group that multicultural and that talented / musically diverse. 808 and his sampling ear was the the musical foundation. I never felt anything yall did after that. That little hispanic dude (forget his name) was the heart, and you were the brain and the visionary. I come to realize that this is how cult empires are created. Most talented individuals are either alone, or in a group with a bunch of less talented individuals. Rarely do you see a group of amazingly talented people come together for one united cause, but when you do magic happens. This applies to business as well as the artistic world. Sometimes I wonder how many other groups there are out there who never got off the ground. How many LFMOB's that I never chanced upon while surfing the net, with amazing albums that were never available in stores or through amazon. I bet you there are hundreds. There's only one LF, but I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of amazing artists we never get a chance to hear. How many amazing soul artists who sing in church every sunday around the country. Meanwhile... T-pain"

"Just wanted to let you know that my 4 year old son is fascinated w/u. He likes your music and walks around the house singing "Mr.Lippe, Mr.Lippe" & when he see's your picture on FB he runs up to the computer and says, "That's Mr.Lippe!!!" LOL You're his idol apparently! (well you and Iron Man) :)"
